It is Far Better to Give than to Receive
How often do you hear `thank you`?
I don`t hear it very often. It seems like I do so much for other people and don`t get very much appreciation at all. Sometimes this really gets to me – like today!
I don`t know about you, but I find myself often faced with the decision of leaving a group or place because I feel more like a doormat than a member. I love, hug, pray or lend an ear, but I never get much in return. It would seem like there is never anyone there for me.
This is always a huge dilemma for me. I try to have a heart to give and a mind to care and especially a spirit full of the love of God. As human beings, this is really tough. We want to be loved and cared for too! We yearn for fellowship and people that miss us when we are away! Unfortunately, the enemy is always there to lend a hand. Reminding us how alone we feel or how we don`t `fit in` or that we`re `left out` all the time!
Fortunately, sitting here ranting about this does make me think of a few people in my life that do thank me, miss me or just all around care and that is comforting. In fact, it lends to that saying about quality and NOT quantity! Or perhaps, the one about not being able to please all of the people all of the time?
So then, if people are thankless, rude, thoughtless, inconsiderate, etc., should we remove them from our lives? Should we discontinue a work that we feel called to do? How much do we really have to bear before we can `call it quits` on something (or someone)?
This particular verse comes to mind (and is one of my favorites):
Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:31
You know, this would imply that our true rewards aren`t even here on Earth! Yes, surely God will bless His daughters and provide generously for them. We will receive our true praise and appreciation from the Lord.
Our pastor has been discussing this a lot lately, in part because of some issues at church, but mostly because it is Godly to give and not worry so much about the receiving end!
And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. I Corinthians 13:3
Everything we do, we need to do for, through, about, because of, and with God. Plain and simple! If we do anything, including give, with the intention of receiving gratitude, appreciation or recognition from other human beings, our efforts are futile! We may receive those things in the long run, but primarily, before all else, we have to live in a way pleasing to God. A way which glorifies Him.
1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;
2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
3 But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints;
4 and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
5 For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
7 Therefore do not be partakers with them;
8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light
9 (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth),
10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
11 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;
12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.
13 But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.
14 For this reason it says, “Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you.”
15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise,
16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil.
17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,
19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;
20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;
21 and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ. Ephesians 5:11

Bless & Be Blessed
Over the weekend, I had the incredible pleasure of being a part of “Walk America”. It was a wonderful experience that my children and I shared with many other people, some of which, I`d like to think we can now call friends.
When we got involved with “Jenna`s Team” almost two months ago, I had all intentions of printing the shirts and hats, rounding up a few sponsors and that would be that. As I got to know John and Jennifer better, I suddenly wanted to do everything I could to make their first experience with “Walk America” a huge success. I couldn`t bring their daughter back or ease their grief in any way, but I could help them support the March of Dimes!
All I can say is WOW! It was such a glorious day. God delivered us amazing weather! It was warm and sunny and not one cloud in the sky! Amidst all the tragedy, fear and sadness of the week before, I was so relieved and encouraged to see so many people pull together for the health and survival of babies!
So, here I was setting out to bless “Jenna`s Team” and immediately, God blessed me by showing me some human behavior that I was beginning to lose hope in! He showed me that there are still people that wish for nothing more than to spread kindness, love, selflessness, and He blessed me with some wonderful, new friends!
The moral of the story, here is this, do everything you do with your whole heart, for the glory of God. He will reward you abundantly!
Sow with a view to righteousness, Reap in accordance with kindness; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD Until He comes to rain righteousness on you. Hosea 10:12
Do not however, attempt to please or impress `people` with your efforts. You will always, always, be disheartened. It is simply impossible to please everyone all of the time. But, the good news is this, when we are doing everything with and through God and for His glory, He is always pleased and He will reward us richly!
6 Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
7 Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.
II Corinthians 9:6-8

Flowers for the Ones You Love
Have you ever heard people say something like this? “I`d rather have a few flowers now, while I`m alive, than dozens when I`m dead and can`t appreciate them”?
I`ve heard it a few times, and it makes a whole lot of sense if you think about it!
We all get so absorbed and bogged down with our own lives and problems that we often don`t take the time necessary to nurture our relationships – before it`s too late.
It`s really easy to fault-find, nag and get frustrated with each other. We get SO upset when our kids don`t clean their rooms or they leave their dirty clothes on the bathroom floor. And it drives us totally bonkers when our good friends at church go on and on about the same things time and time again.
But the fact of the matter is - love is of God.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. I John 4:7
We spend SO much time complaining, griping and being offended - really it all boils down to being judgmental and intolerant of others – being `UN`loving!
Personally, I`ve been working very hard to stop judging people. To stop pointing out their shortcomings and love EVERYONE as a brother or sister in Christ – just as I wish to be loved. (Yes, this is very difficult! Sometimes it is done with little or no appreciation – in the natural anyway.)
This is why we look to God for strength and encouragement. This is one of those things we can only do through Him – FOR Him!
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13
Last week, there was a lot of fear, tragedy and death – all over the country! For most of us, it triggers an intense sense of loss and sadness, whether we knew the individuals or not. We mourn the loss and grieve for the families.
Amidst all of this, I got to thinking about how futile life seems sometimes, how mundane and routine our lives become.
I`ve often heard pastors preach on the importance of acknowledging your love for family and friends and doing it often. (There must be something to this!)
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. James 1:17
Let them know you love them, let them know you care and appreciate them. Tell your kids that you`re proud of their accomplishments and love the people they`re becoming. Give them a hug before school – even if they`re not too thrilled about it! Say a prayer over them as they go, ask God for His protection and guidance for them – always thank Him for your beautiful blessings!
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6
We never know how long we have together or when we`ll leave this Earth. It`s important to make life matter – make everything you do matter! -Do it from your heart!
Take a moment today to show those most important to you how much you care. Show everyone you care! Give out a few extra smiles, say an extra `thank you` or `excuse me` at the grocery store or shopping mall today.
Give out some flowers!
19 Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,
20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,
21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;
24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,
25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

Generosity of Heart
1 Praise the LORD!
How blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
Who greatly delights in His commandments.
2 His descendants will be mighty on earth;
The generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.
4 Light arises in the darkness for the upright;
He is gracious and compassionate and righteous.
5 It is well with the man who is gracious and lends;
He will maintain his cause in judgment.
6 For he will never be shaken;
The righteous will be remembered forever.
7 He will not fear evil tidings;
His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
8 His heart is upheld, he will not fear,
Until he looks with satisfaction on his adversaries.
9 He has given freely to the poor,
His righteousness endures forever;
His horn will be exalted in honor.
10 The wicked will see it and be vexed,
He will gnash his teeth and melt away;
The desire of the wicked will perish. Psalm 112:1-10
Whew! It has been really hard to dedicate time to the computer lately! We have been on a quest to find a new car. What an agonizing venture this is! Something that should be so much fun is absolutely horrific! Car dealers (most of the ones I`ve dealt with) have absolutely no concern or regard for their customers! They just want to get you in whatever will generate the most commission for them! Well, this search remains ongoing, but I`ll be sure to let you know how it turns out.
Also a very time consuming (but SO gratifying) task has been my new mission to generate sponsors for “Jenna`s Team”! When I read Jenna`s story and learned of the trials and heartaches that this family has endured, I just felt that deep down sense of commitment to do `something`!!!
It`s been very disheartening for me to learn that most people don`t see it this way. Although I sent out many, many requests for even just $1 donations, I found that wasn`t something that interested people! (I mean all I could think was if a message board had 500 members and ½ of them donated $1, that would be $250 for the March of Dimes! This wasn`t the case.)
On the other hand, I have to give a `hip hip hooray` to the few internet gals that stepped up, the ladies at the dentist`s office, the employees at Mom`s work, the American Legion and to my church. When presented with the opportunity to do something good, kind and generous, we found people digging for every penny they had on them or even doubling the requested donations! Whoo Hoo! You guys rock!
This leads me to my thought for this weekend. GENEROSITY
The generous man will be prosperous, And he who waters will himself be watered. Proverbs 11:25
There are a lot of ways that we can be generous. Besides monetary donations or contributions, we can give of our time, energy, talents, etc. Quite frankly, it is Christ-like to be generous and giving! I also feel that if you have Jesus Christ in your heart, it comes naturally!
17 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. 18 Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed. I Timothy 6:17-19
We are all so very different and have many different talents and abilities. It`s important that we utilize these talents and share ourselves, (even if that means opening our wallets sometimes) ultimately glorifying God and spreading His Word! It`s important for each and every one of us to step up and do whatever we possibly can! There are so many hurting and struggling people out there. Think about people that have had a positive impact on your life . . . a preacher, a teacher, a friend . . . what if they had stifled their gifts? What if they hadn`t reached out to you? Where would YOU be? Personally, I shudder to think about it!
1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. 3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. 4 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; 7 if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; 8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. 9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, 13 contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. 17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord. 20 “BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:1-21
Step out! Have faith in God`s plan for you! Someone out there needs you! *wink*
